Dan Grading

Four seniors traveled through the snow to fight in the Dan Grading in Walsall on Sunday 5thn February.  Barry had two fights and came away with seven points towards his third dan.  Tom had six fights, coming away with twenty points and Craig came away with ten points.  Well done to all of those, they know it's so important to come away with some points each time.  Also flying the flag for the club was Ria, four fights and four wins!  A tremendous result which leaves her needing just thirty points to win her Dan Grade.  They all plan to fight again in the next few months so lets keep pushing them in training!

Grading

A junior grading was held in the dojo on Sunday 29th January.  There was a great turnout, 6 dragons and 18 juniors.   It's great to see so many young players taking their first steps towards their black belts!  Well done to all who took part and my thanks go to Dave for running the session, and Dai, Lisa and Rob for helping out.  The next grading date will be posted on the events page so keep checking back.

Commonwealth Tournament

Congratulations to Helen who fought for the senior Welsh team at the Commonwealth Tournament in Cardiff.  This is very prestigious event which attracts players from all over the globe.  Helen fought in one of the biggest groups, 16 players.  She lost one fight and won two, earning her a very credible seventh place!  Well done Helen!

January 8th 2012

What a great way to start the new year!  Five members of NJC entered the Welsh open mnini mon and kyu grade championships. This was the first taste of competitive action for Nick and Ban Newton.  Ben entered the under 16 category, he fought some older and more experienced players, proving himself to be a difficult player to fight and earning himself a very credible silver medal.

Nick was pitted against two more experienced players and fought very well indeed.  He showed that he was thinking about his gripping and showed great guts.  He came away with a well earned bronze medal and both are eager to get into action again in March.   Three of our more experienced juniors also took part.  Owen put in some gutsy performances to win the bronze in the under 12s category, Gabrielle fought with lots of spirit to take home the bronze and a few bruises!  Mark Ford put in two very good performances to win the silver medal.  Well done to you all, you did yourselves and the club proud and I look forward to seeing you all in action in the Pembrokeshire Tournament.

Unluckily for Nick and Mark, they had to battle their nerves, their opponents and the joy of seeing me in the middle of the mat refereeing them!  Thanks to you all for your help, support and being my guinea pigs, I was awarded my BJA C Grade referee award.

November 6th 2011

What a great day for the club! First of all, man of the moment Baz Watson, as if there was more than one Baz, won his second dan with a great performance against a talented second dan. A great way to get his last points, well done Baz! Mark Ford, gold medal in the Bont championships, very well done, setting the standard for the rest of our juniors to follow. Callum Gough, eye witness accounts say that Callum, fighting in a senior competition did really well and was unlucky not to come away with a higher medal. Well done Callum a very well earned senior bronze. All results today achieved through constant hard work and commitment. Finally, Bill. The wookie roars again!!!! Bill did lots of refereeing today and passed his National C grade award, again! Must be a new lease of life after recently earning his 3rd Dan! A real purple patch for the club founder!
